Fractional Order Viscoelastic Model for Stress Relaxation of Polyvinyl Chloride Geomembranes

Stress relaxation properties have a significant impact on the performance of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) geomembranes (GMBs) at peripheral joints membrane faced rockfill dam (MFRD). This paper presents fractional order viscoelastic model (FOVM) to measure stress as function time. Model parameters were obtained by best fit results from wide-width strip tensile tests conducted three rates and initial strains for 48 h. The 90 d test demonstrate applicability describe behavior PVC GMBs. rate strain marginally influenced modulus rate, while having no effects derivative order. Residual could account difference in between longitudinal transverse specimens. Finally, FOVM be used predicting service cycle under specifying failure criteria. Furthermore, it has great potential applications long-term deformation GMBs MFRD.
